FATHER LIGHTNING

FATHER LIGHTNING

My father loved the symphony that came each year to town.
The musicians sang atop the clouds and danced upon the ground.
Their music wasn't typical, nor was their sweet refrain.
That's because my dad would stand and listen to the rain.
So when I think about my dad and how he raised us kids,
I find a field, rest my head, and slowly close my lids.
The memories he gave to us, the ones that really last,
All come flooding back to me with the slow, sweet smell of grass.
